Sunboost® Solar Panel System Reviews

Warning- if you have a two storey house it may just be too much trouble for the installers

I initially did my research, I sort of knew Sunboost were one of the fastfood outlets for Solar installations. I had a friend in the same suburb use them and everything turned out well for her. After cancelling one day for the install, on the new date the installers turned up. The install manager wanted to initially change where the panels had agreed to go so that it would be closer to the fuse box. He was concerned about length of cable he would have to use. After it was determined they needed to go where planned, he said the roof was too high to safely get the panels up. I said they were welcome to carry the panels inside to a second storey balcony where there was easy access to the roof. They were not interested, panels too large. However not as large as the sofa that was carried up last week. He then said the roof pitch was a bit steep. After that it was all action deciding which job they could get to next hopefully a single storey house with an easy install. I felt that with so much work on, the installers could cherry pick the easy jobs and ones like mine which would take longer and would be more difficult, they were not interested in. One installer said if I hired a lift from a hire store for about $300 they could go ahead. When Sunboost eventually came back to me they said they could do the job for another $1,200. Good one. If you have a simple install, why not risk it, it didnt work for me, but I can understand the economics of it as they probably get paid the same irrespective of how long the install takes. Hopefully I receive my deposit back next week as promised.

Buyers beware, 4.5 stars maybe PR Review is being gamed, maybe not

Hello potential solar energy byers and Sunboost on line monitoring person, (you know what's coming). I have mixed emotions about my Sunboost experience. I notice that those who score Sunboost 5 stars mostly have never review anything before, just suddenly felt the urge to register on PR and gush (very briefly) about how wonderful Sunboost were. Really. Notice again 5 star reviews happen each and every day without ever missing a day and multiple times a day. Really! These 5 Star review all mention and remember names of the multiple persons you will discover along the way. I won't because just to many to begin to remember. Good bits. Not much fun bits. Predictable bits. I have a fully functioning Sunboost Solar energy thing on the roof of my house with a new box and electricity meter. I believe, without any evidence to back it up, just belief, that I am selling energy back into the grid. 12 cents a bit. My retailer sells green electrons to me for 29 cents plus a daily connection charge. I can charge my retailer no daily connection charge to my system. Gosh how fair is that. Before the new "smart" meter arrived the best fun I could have with my new toy was to go out to my old 1970's meter and watch it run backwards. I would then go inside, put a load of washing on, plug in and charge all my IT, power up the TV, put something in the convection oven, make coffee in the microwave (just lost all the urbanite readers as they make for the local barristers workplace shaking their beads) and vacuum and see how much stuff I could use before my old meter would run forward again. Take it from me , it's a lot and that is a very satisfying feeling. Cheapest quote by $50. Ended up costing $2941 for a 24 panel system of which 20 panels were installed and 4 panels went back on the installers truck (I call these my stolen "free" panels - see other non 5 star reviews and you will get the three shell trick that Sunboost play with installation). Sales process is persistent, but no more so than the other companies who quoted. In the end Sunboost delivered on the promise to beat any other quote. If you love bargaining for stuff in markets in Asia on your holidays you are going to love the process of buying solar. Before I made the purchase I read PR Sunboost reviews to see what could possibly go wrong. It seemed that the two common problems were, Sunboost selling something that could not be installed on the roof and then taking away the not installable panels that had been sold as part off the package (I call that theft because I can not bring myself to calling myself a fool). So I got a written undertaking from Sunboost that the pack sold could be installed on my home and a plan of how that would occur. Good oh. Pay a deposit. Installation date process hassle free and men in van with 24 panels and other stuff knocked on my door very early on the appointed day. Good oh. Boss man in van tells me Sunboost plan a no go and what a surprise, he can only get 20 of the 24 panels on my roof. I show him Sunboost plan, which he has never seen before and he insists nicely and helpfully that he can/will only install 20 of 24. He will take away 4 panels. Full payment must be made to Sunboost on the installation day before installation and commissioning. I email Sunboost, leave me the 4 panels that don't fit that you promised would fit and I will pay the lot or if you take them away give me a credit for the wholesale cost of the panels and I will pay the balance. How fair and relaxed am I. I get phone calls. I start to get lectured, yelled at, treated like a dope (which you realise I can not admit)and womansplained about "free panels", pay up in full, "I have instructed installers to leave". I hang up on her and start dealing only by email. Outcome, gave me $200 discount by days end and stole 4 panels. Whatever, I'm so over this, why oh why do I ignore PR and think I've got this one covered. When I got home from work, surprise, men in van did not leave, they installed. Not the Sunboost plan, not the plan they came up with on the morning of the day but another one entirely. Installer dropped the dongle that is needed to install the software for the inverter in the garden and I guess went on to install my lost 4 panels on one of the 5 star happy customers roofs below. Things improved a lot the next morning when I went out and inspected the job and then found my old meter running really quickly -backwards. Sunboost aftercare has been attentive, concerned, on time and really good. I don't think I will taking up Sunboost offer of $100 for a referral from my network of friends, neighbours and acquaintances. Should you by a Sunboost system? and hello to Sunboost who read these reviews.

work not delivered

the people delivering the system forgot to leave the frames to stand the panels up , the installers said they would get them as it happens all the time ,got home from work with all installed . when the sparkle came to inspect the instillation . i asked what angle the panels should be on ,he said 37 ,but said mine were lying flat, then asked the installer what happened why are they not standing up ,he said that i would loose the middle row of panels from shadowing my roof is 10mts x 7 mts then said they could not fix them down , so now all my panels are lying flat ,then asked how is going to refund my $600.oo back and why didnt someone tell me about the work not do ,it feels like they tried to get away with it then it tripped out 3 times . what can i say

Deposit cost

I was pressured by hard sales to place a $300 deposit. After making it clear that I could not afford the $300 deposit, they accepted a $100 initial deposit with $200 payment the following week. What they did not tell me was about a transaction fee. I was charged $1.00 transaction fee so had to fork over $101 to cover the fee and now when I received my refund I was charged a further $1.00 so received $99 refund. I got scammed $2.00 for my pressured decision. Ok, my fault but beware because I placed a deposit with another provider and did NOT pay a fee at all.

A good price but an unpleasant experience.

Sunboost needs to address serious shortcomings in matters of communication. I found it most difficult to obtain definitive answers on price, inclusion of tilt frames for panels and on date of installation. Repeated requests for information yielded only vague and evasive answers. With tilt frames for example I asked that they be shown in the quotation at least five times. It did not happen. Also staff did not call back when they promised to do so. The lack of effective communication creates a very bad impression for Sunboost and casts doubt over the integrity of the operation. Even while the panels were being installed, Sunboost endeavoured to increase the price because of extra conduits and wiring they had not considered. This was despite Sunboost being provided with detailed photos of the site together with written and verbal explanations of what was involved. The oversight was entirely the fault of Sunboost and to their credit, they agreed to meet all the additional costs involved. The matter should never have arisen. While the Head Office communication is poor, the work of the installers was most professional, although 2 days after the installation the inverter appears to have problems. Would I recommend Sunboost. No.

Didn't follow instructions

They were very responsive before installation but once installed, I didn't have any response. There was an issue with the installation as they didn't follow our builder's instructions and no-one will get back to me to resolve this issue. Very disappointing.

Poor service and communication

We were told that the solar panel will be installed on Wednesday morning. My husband filed a leave on that day and waited but the installers didn?t come. I called [name removed] and she said she couldn?t contact them. The next day, [name removed] called me that the installers couldn?t find our address without informing us that they are coming. I told her how come they couldn?t find our house, you just have to use google maps. The reason is the installers got the wrong address. [name removed] called me again Thursday night and informed me that the installers will come Tomorrow Friday morning. I told her and gave her our address to be sure so the installers will not get lost. Friday morning they came but did not install the panels because it was raining. They came back Saturday morning. They started the installation at 8:30am and finished at 1pm. The installation process was good but the electrician did not explain how to use the inbuilt wifi connection. The inverter was installed well on the wall but there is no cover. We are worried if it rains that it will get wet and get damaged over time.

So far so bad

So far so bad. 1st, I had to chase for installation date after paying the deposit. 2nd, had to wait 2 weeks for installation (others only days). 3rd they just cancel the installation on the installation day. 4th, not even a prior courtesy notification. Mind you I had to skip office today. Last, need to wait by the end of the day to get another (promise) installation date. Let's see how this goes.

Lack of communication, refund requested, little information. $150 fee.

Called up and got a great deal, 20 + 2 Panels ~5.5kW system. After deposit was paid, we were not informed that we had to call up to book the installation. Installation was booked for a few days later, however I had discussed my concerns about the available roof space with the rep, who assured me it would be fine. Day of install and the installers tell me that they can only fit a maximum of 8 panels, (While inefficiently retaining the 5kW inverter...?) and no knowledge if there would be a refund for the other 14. I told them to not install today, but that I would call up to discuss options. After calling up we discovered Sunboost had an image of the older property (Ours new built in December), they decided that they could not offer a solution and cancelled. It took around 1.5 weeks to find out how much would be refunded. Everything except for a $150 'administration fee' has been refunded. The terms and conditions claims this fee is if we cancelled, which we did not. Still waiting on the $150 return, anticipating I won't get it back. Dates - Welcome to Sunboost + Deposit Paid 8/8 Full payment - 21/8 (Required before install) Install Booked for - 28/8 Sunboost Cancelled - 30/8 Refund Received - (Deposit only. ~$300, they didn't realise we had paid in full) 10/9 Full Refund (Minus $150) 11/9 Review completed 24/9, still no $150, called/emailed every day. This was a simple mistake from Sunboost as they had an image of the older property. With better communication (e.g an invoice for refund on the day it was cancelled), an explanation of the $150, and return of full payment, this review would have been avoided.

Re installation 72083 The system seems to be working ok , but it looks like it has been installed in

Hello [name removed] , thank you for your note The installers were great to deal with but I have had a look at the panels that were installed on the roof 13/12/18 & noticed the mounting rails are around the opposite way to the old system & the new panels are uneven in Height & not level with each other & the old system which gives the impression the roof is very uneven . Also one of the mounting rails has been joined & placed in full view at the bottom facing the ground & looks rough . If this rail was turned around & placed in the next row of supports up the roof the jouin would be out of sight & would look much better from the ground , this is an adjustment situation during installation to which I would of rated at a 5 star , after the adjustments have been made . Merry christmas & happy new year . Kind regards S Byrne .
